Elsewhere on the WebAbout the Visual Basic .NET Complete Course - Answers to your questions.About Visual Basic .NET - A brief introduction to what VB.NET actually is ...Visual Basic is only the most successful software development system known in the history of the Universe! That might seem a little over the top ... but it's literally true. We don't know anything about software languages on other planets, but VB is the most successful way to program here on Earth. And VB.NET is the latest and greatest version of Visual Basic. You're in the right place! But as great as VB 6 was(notice the past tense), it was clearly showing it's age. The fact is, other languages were starting to kick it around and Microsoft knew that something had to be done. The problem was that VB 6 was just not designed as an object oriented programming (OOP) development environment. The biggest Visual Basic innovation and the thing that made VB take off like a rocket a decade ago was that it made it possible to write Windows programs easily and productively. But this was done by avoiding some of the complexities of OOP. Before VB, Windows programs had to be carefully crafted with something like C++ and if you wanted a fully OOP language, Microsoft had a great C++ compiler. (They still do.) But C++ programs took a long time to write and even longer to debug. Most programmers just didn't do it. (Back then, most programmers were 'mainframers' anyway.)
