Visual Basic .NET For Experienced Programmers
by Harvey M. Deitel, Paul J. Deitel
(August, 2002 - List Price: $54.99)

Visual Basic .NET For Experienced Programmers

This is also a really good book to learn VB.NET. It should be! Large chunks of it are virtually identical to the "beginning" level book from the same organization. A page by page comparison of the chapter on polymorphism, for example, revealed only a few very minor paragraphs where both books were not word-for-word identical. So if you want to avoid the higher price of Visual Basic .NET How to Program (2nd Edition), and you don't mind losing some extras in that book such as the CD-ROM, the color illustrations, and the exercises at the end of chapters, get this book instead. They really are both excellent books!

This book does have extras of it's own. For example, the chapter on Microsoft's Mobile Internet Toolkit is completely new and details how ASP.NET can be extended to mobile clients. And since this book was published more recently, the authors have been able to include the most recent information about VB.NET. In general, however, you can consider this book to be Visual Basic .NET How to Program (2nd Edition) without the leather seats and custom trim options but at a lower price.

For author information and applications covered please see the review of Visual Basic .NET How to Program (2nd Edition).
