HTML is so . "20th century". Web Services is so 21st century! It's not surprising, then, that this is one of the most recent titles published. And given that Microsoft is one of the leading proponents of Web Services, it's not surprising that many of the cover quotes for the book are from Microsoft insiders. In fact, the only thing that is surprising is that it's not published by Microsoft Press. |

The Web Services technology is often known better by its catchy acronyms, SOAP, WSDL and UDDI. This is no "writing assignment" for the author. He's has obviously decided to base his whole career on this exploding technology and this book seems to be a labor of devotion. This make it a great Visual Basic programmer's guide to designing and building these services. Intended as both a reference and a way to learn the technology, it covers both basic concepts and example solutions to real problems. This a top pick for the Christmas gift giving! If you're shopping for a book for your really nerdy friend or loved one, pick this one. Reason number one: Web services is hot, it's really hot. Reason number two: the book is new enough to give you a good shot at getting something they don't already have. Reason number three: It's just a great book! And it's packaged with the source code CD-ROM for your convenience too. Yasser Shohoud is an independent software architect and trainer specializing in XML Web services, so this book is in his "core competency". The book is also produced with close cooperation and support from the highly rated DevelopMentor organization. As you might expect, he has a pretty heavy online and media presence. You can get up close and transactional with Yasser Shohoud at his website devoted to Web Services. |
