.NET Enterprise Development in VB.NET: From Design to Deployment

This book, unfortunately, didn't make it in the Wrox reorganization so the big vendors don't have this anymore. But it's still widely available from independent dealers and at a much better price! You get a professional explanation of the in's and out's of what it takes to build 'enterprise class' applications using VB.NET. Although VB 6 was certainly capable of this kind of development, VB.NET was made to capture this market at the corporate level. (.NET certainly wasn't made to appeal to entry level programmers!)

This is not a beginning level book and the topics discussed are the ones that will interest professional programmers building enterprise business systems. If you're not currently up against the relatively high level problems this book talks about, you may not get as much out of it as you would like. This is not one of the A-Z "everything-about-VB.NET" books.

If you are up against it, the book can be a real bargain. Starting with chapter 2, the book uses an Object Builder tool (documented in the appendix and available by download at the Wrox web site) to build something they call "WEO" or Wrox Enterprise Objects. The authors use this an the defining example of how to use VB.NET to turn your programming into a software factory. WEO has been criticized for not actually being production quality, but the goal is to show you how to create your own enterprise software, not just to copy theirs.

This is a companion book to it's twin, NET Enterprise Development in C# by the same authors. So if you're interested in comparing the two or if your enterprise is using both languages, these two books could be very useful for that as well.
