TwoFer Available

Tuesday January 6, 2009

Times are tough! Here's how to stretch your conference dollar.

You might have seen one of Microsoft's ads for their current round of MSDN Developer Conference sessions and checked out the locations available. And you might have wondered, "Why is there only one west of Texas and why is it a month later than all the others?"

Because it's a 'TwoFer'. You get two conferences for (*almost*) the price of one.

The friendly folks who put on VSLive have convinced Microsoft to be a "pre-conference" event for their main event.

Since Microsoft believes the world revolves around them rather than the other way around, you would never figure that out from viewing their page. It would have been nice of them to mention VSLive on their main page, but No-o-o-o-o! So here's the link to VSLive for your convenience.

They do list VSLive on their backup page for their San Francisco event. In fact, the two companies are offering a joint discount for the combination event. But there is a deadline: January 14!

Back in the good old days, these events were the best thing next to sliced bread. But they're still pretty great. Web pages (like this one) are OK, but there's nothing like the immediate give and take of being there with the experts in person. Besides, if you're looking for 'insight' into the direction computing is going, you can gain impressions at these in-person events that you just can't get any other way. I'm personally interested in The Future of Managed Languages: C# and Visual Basic and An Introduction to Microsoft F#. (Don't we have enough languages now?)

But if you miss it, I'll be reporting from the floor!
