The Visual Basic 2005 Cookbook Redux

A Real Expert Review

You can learn just about anything from books. But it takes lots of books and lots of time reading them to become a real expert. So for real "expertise" you sometimes just have to consult a real expert.

Recently, I posted a review of the new book, The Visual Basic 2005 Cookbook. As I was working on the review, I noticed that the book contained a somewhat unique focus on "Dates and Times" in Chapter 7. We're very fortunate here because one of our most faithful readers and contributors is Peter Zilahy Ingerman, PhD. He knows more about dates and times than anyone else I have ever met and he agreed to give Chapter 7 an expert review.

The end result is not only entertaining and informative, it's a lesson in just what you get with a real expert compared with the "do it yourself" approach. It's a revealing look with sort of a "the rest of the story" feel to it.

Since the article tells you a lot about what is missing and misleading in Chapter 7 of the book, Peter and I are both concerned that you might get the wrong idea. Before reading "the rest of the story", Peter wanted me to make sure that I also let you know that, "I really do like the style of the book, and have learned several things just by skimming through it!"
